Greetings—
It is my pleasure to introduce you to the faculty, staff, students and facilities of the Schwob School of Music in Columbus, Georgia. Our mission is to provide excellence in the core musical training of our students, to help talented students harness their dedication to become communicative artists, and to be a generous resource for our community and University. We strive each day to attain these ambitions.
The Schwob School of Music was selected as the 2008-09 recipient of the University System of Georgia Regents Teaching Excellence Award for Departments and Programs. This prestigious award is presented annually to one program within the 35 campus University System of Georgia, and validates the high standards we strive to uphold in the education of our students.
The heart of our School is our faculty, all of whom are exceptionally well qualified to teach, and are nationally and internationally recognized in their fields of expertise. When you visit the campus and meet the faculty, you will experience the emphasis placed on nurturing each student's talent both individually and collectively.
Our students have gone on to careers as public school teachers, professional performers, conductors, college and university professors, and private music teachers. The success of our students and graduates continues to be a source of great pride for us!
A rich variety of musical opportunities at the Schwob School plays an important role in developing students' musical talents. Our beautiful state-of-the-art concert facilities, practice rooms featuring over 70 Steinway&Sons pianos, and fully mediated classroom spaces provide outstanding acoustic settings for making music. Our proximity to the auxiliary arts-theater, dance, the visual arts-in Uptown Columbus's RiverCenter, as well as membership in CSU's College of the Fine and Performing Arts, provides a distinctive educational and physical footprint for interdisciplinary collaboration.
From performing with the Columbus Symphony Orchestra to offering chamber music recitals in area homes, our students and faculty actively participate in the cultural life of Columbus. Our collaborators include internationally renowned musicians such as the Shanghai String Quartet, pianist Jon Kimura Parker, trumpet player Phil Smith, guitarist Manuel Barrueco , and many more. In addition to recording and performing with us, our musical guests direct master classes, offer career advice, and interact in a variety of ways to benefit our students.
Please spend some time exploring the links and connections provided for you in the Schwob School of Music website. Our staff and I welcome your interest and would be happy to answer any questions you have regarding our program--please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
Welcome!
