Dr. Christopher Azzara is Professor of Music Education at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York and a leading expert in the field of improvisation-based music learning. In addition to his skills as an educator, he is an accomplished jazz pianist, having performed with his own quartet and with faculty members from the Eastman School of Music. April 3rd: Mingus Big Band - 50th Anniversary of Blues and Roots and Ah Um concert, 7:30pm, Bill Heard Theatre
April 4th: CSU Jazz Band with guest Melvin Jones (trumpet), Bill Heard Theatre, 1pm
Join the CSU Jazz Band as it presents its first-ever Contemporary Composers concert in Bill Heard Theatre, featuring works by Maria Schneider, Dave Rivello, Bob Mintzer, and others. Shirantha Beddage directs. This concert is part of the 2009 Columbus State Jazz Festival (note special start time).
April 4th: The David Brothers Super Big Band, Bill Heard Theatre, 4pm
The 2009 Columbus State Jazz Festival concludes in Bill Heard Theatre with a performance from the David Brothers Super Big Band, a stellar ensemble of jazz performers from across Georgia. Directed by Andy David (piano) and John David (drums), the group performs in a wide variety of styles, featuring the works of historical and contemporary jazz composers. The band also includes CSU professor Shirantha Beddage and Amy Griffiths (saxophones), and features soloist Melvin Jones (trumpet). Note special start time.
May 8th: Spring Swing event featuring the CSU Jazz Band, Studio Theatre, 7pm
Come dance the night away with the CSU Jazz Band as we bid farewell to the 08/09
