Dr. Bradley Palmer is in his eleventh year as the trombone professor at Columbus State University's Schwob School of Music. He has held the position of principal trombonist with numerous orchestras, and has performed with the Alabama, Jacksonville (FL), Columbus (GA) and Tallahassee (FL) symphonies on bass, tenor and alto trombone. He continues to perform on a regular basis with a number of orchestras in the region. Other regional performing engagements have included the award-winning Georgia Brass Band, the Palmetto Posaunen trombone choir and the Piedmont Trombone Society. He is currently the principal trombonist with the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra (GA) and is a member of the Columbus Brass. He is also a founding member of the Quatuor du Sud trombone quartet. As a soloist, Dr. Palmer can be heard on the Summit label performing Richard Peaslee's "Arrows of Time" with the CSU Wind Ensemble. Dr. Palmer has performed at four International Trombone Festivals, most recently in Salt Lake City, UT in May 2008, and has been invited to perform at the 2010 Festival in Austin Texas. Other solo engagements for 2009-2010 include solo recitals at the University of Oklahoma, Wichita State University and Laval University (Quebec) and a solo appearance with the Georgia Brass Band in concert at CSU. In addition to a busy performance schedule, he enjoys presenting masterclasses, clinics and serving as an adjudicator throughout the US. He is the director of trombone ensembles at CSU, and in March of 2009 conducted the CSU Trombone Choir in a performance at the Eastern Trombone Workshop in Washington D.C. Recent guest artists in the trombone studio have included Joe Alessi (principal, New York Philharmonic), Charlie Vernon (bass trombone, Chicago Symphony), Rick Stout (Cleveland Orchestra). During the 2009-2010 academic year we are proud to welcome Colin Williams, Bill Thomas and George Curran (Atlanta Symphony trombonists), Nitzan Haroz (principal, Philadelphia Orchestra), Paul Pollard and Weston Sprott (New York Metropolitan Orchestra), Jay Evans (principal, Alabama Symphony) and other fine guest artists on trombone. On the faculty, Dr. Palmer (BM Millikin University, MM University of Iowa, and DM Florida State University) is the coordinator of brass studies, teaches trombone and music technology courses. As a recording engineer and producer, Dr. Palmer has recorded some of today's leading players from the Chicago Symphony, Houston Symphony, New York Metropolitan Opera, New York Philharmonic and Atlanta Symphony in Columbus State University's Legacy Hall. In addition, Dr. Palmer serves as the International Trombone Festival Recording Coordinator. The trombone studio website has a wealth of audio and video clips of the trombone ensembles, guest artists and Dr. Palmer, and much more information about degrees and opportunities in the CSU Trombone Studio, including our Master's degree in performance, expected to begin in the Fall of 2010. Along with Atlanta Symphony trombonists Colin Williams, Bill Thomas and George Curran, Palmer serves on the faculty of the Southeast Trombone Symposium.
