Future students

Thank you for your interest in the trombone studio at Columbus State University!  Please take some time to read about the trombone studio and be sure to visit the clips and photos section to see and hear what the excitement is all about.  After doing so, please contact Dr. Palmer to set up a visit.  I will be happy to meet with you for a tour of the facility and a free lesson.  I believe this is a very important step for prospective students -- to come get a feel for the Schwob School of Music and the trombone studio before making the decision about where to study music in college.  Please join our CSU Trombone Studio Facebook Group - a great way to follow the activities of the studio and its performances and guest artists!

The 2009-2010 Columbus State University trombone studio consists of 12 students pursuing Music Education, Performance, or Bachelors of Arts in Music degrees.  This year we have eleven undergraduate students and one graduate student, which is the ideal makeup of the studio.  Each student has an hour-long lesson with Dr. Palmer each week, and attends a group studio class each Friday morning.

Meet the members of the Trombone Studio

Trombone students have a number of performing opportunities at Columbus State, including:

There are two large trombone ensembles at Columbus State University.  The Trombone Choir is around 17 members strong, and rehearses each week on Tuesday night.  The Trombone Octet was founded in 2005, and is the premier trombone ensemble, comprised of eight auditioned members.  The Octet rehearses on Friday afternoons at 3:30.  Rehearsals for both groups are open, and visitors are welcome.  Trombone students also form trombone quartets that perform on and off campus. Clips of the trombone ensembles can be found on the clips and photos link on the left.  Recent trombone ensemble performances include the GMEA conference, the Eastern Trombone Workshop in Washington, DC and with soloists including Charlie Vernon.
