In addition to performing opportunities in CSU's Wind Bands, Orchestra and Jazz Ensembles, trombonists also have the opportunity to play with one or both of the CSU Trombone Ensembles. Two separate ensembles each rehearse once a week for two hours. The CSU Trombone Octet is made up of the top eight auditioned players. This group meets on Friday afternoons at 3:00. The CSU Trombone choir has approximately 16 members each semester, and rehearses at 7:30 on Tuesday night.
The CSU Trombone choir has a number of performances scheduled for the 2008-2009 academic year, including performances at many area churches, concerts in Legacy Hall at CSU, a performance at the GMEA Conference, and most noteably a performance the 2009 Eastern Trombone Workshop in Washington DC.
This season includes collaboration with two noteable trombonists: Charlie Vernon and Jonathan Warburton. Charlie will be at CSU in April 2009 performing Christian Lindbergh's Chick-a-Bone Checkout with the CSU Orchestra, as well as soloing with the CSU Trombone Ensembles. Noted UK composer John Frith is composing a new work for the CSU Trombone Choir to feature bass trombone soloist Jonathan Warburton. The piece will have its world premier at the 2009 ETW
